Indra Lorentzen
Performer
Indra Lorentzen began her career with the Norwegian National Ballet in 1973 at the age of seventeen, and was appointed soloist three years later. She performed leading roles across both the classical and modern repertoire over more than two decades with the company.
In 1981–82 she danced with Cullberg Ballet under the direction of Mats Ek. After retiring from the Norwegian National Ballet in 1998, she has worked freelance as a choreographer, director, and teacher, with a particular focus on different folk cultures. Her work has taken her into collaborations with Silamiut Theater in Greenland, Beaivváš Sámi Teáhter in Norway, Giron Sámi Teáhter and Västanå Teater in Sweden, the National School of Drama in Delhi, and the Center for Asian Theatre in Dhaka.
She has received several awards over her career, including the Anders Jahres Kulturpris in 2023 — Norway’s most prestigious cultural recognition.
