Performer

Kate Pendry, born in London in 1965 and based in Oslo since 1995, is a playwright, actress, and performance artist known for her incisive political edge and dark humor. Trained at Mountview Theatre School, she has created bold, confrontational works across media - spanning theatre, radio, interactive performance, and sound - renowned for their social commentary and unexpected wit.

Pendry has written and produced over fifty pieces for the stage, combining political urgency with experimental form. Her breakthrough in multimedia came with the interactive work sense:less, which received an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica and toured international festivals, including Rotterdam’s DEAF and the Istanbul Biennale. As a dramatist, she received the Ibsen Prize in 2010 for Erasmus Tyrannus Rex, and was twice nominated for the Ibsen Prize overall. She also penned challenging works such as Sex in the War Zone, which tackled war tourism in the Balkans and toured across Europe including to the Cartier Foundation in Paris and MoMA Stockholm.

As an actress, Pendry joined Alan Lucien Øyen’s touring ensemble winter guests in 2010, performing at the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and in international venues. Among her most recent creations are My Dinner with Putin (2023), which earned Hedda and Critics Award nominations, and 1969 - True. Crime. Theatre. (2024), part of a memoir trilogy she is currently developing. She also continues innovative interdisciplinary work, including a Pidgin-English radio drama adaptation of The Master Builder slated for 2026.

Her artistic range bridges theatrical form and provocative substance - consistently pushing boundaries and reshaping what performance can reveal about identity, politics, and society.
Kate Pendry has worked on the following winter guests productions: America – Visions of Love (2009, performer), Coelacanth (2013, performer), Jingle Horse!( (2015, performer), Psychopatriot (2016, performer), and SuperAmateur (2017, performer).
