Stine Sjøgren

Costume designer

Stine Sjøgren holds a degree in fashion design from the French school Esmod, Oslo, and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre (costume and stage design) from Northwestern University, Chicago (1997–2001). She also studied theater theory and philosophy at the University of Oslo (1996–1997).

Since 2009 she has collaborated closely with Alan Lucien Øyen, becoming the principal costume designer for winter guests. This long-standing partnership has resulted in numerous acclaimed productions that have toured internationally.

Her work extends broadly beyond winter guests, spanning a diverse array of opera, ballet, dance theater, musicals, and contemporary dance companies around the world. She has designed costumes for Paris Opera Ballet; Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch (Bon Voyage Bob, 2018; Antigone, 2025); the Dance Company of GöteborgsOperan (If We Shadows Have Offended, Kodak); Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (Rusalka); The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet(Scheherazade, Petrusjka); Det Norske Teatret; and Nederlands Dans Theater (Tell Your Mom You Love Your Skin), as well as productions for major international festivals and touring projects.

She has maintained a long-term creative relationship with choreographer Daniel Proietto, designing for Cygne, We Two Boys, La Muerte del Angel, Woman, and Blanc at Staatsoper Wien. In addition, her practice includes collaborations with choreographers such as Fernando Melo (exploring gravity-defying costume forms), Alexander Ekman, Douglas Lee, Kaloyan Boyadjiev, Andreas Heise, Ina Christel Johannessen, and Jo Strømgren.

Known for her sculptural sensitivity and integration of costume with movement, Sjøgren creates designs that inform and elevate the performers’ physical expression while shaping the emotional and visual resonance of each production.

Stine Sjøgren has worked on the following winter guests productions: Flawed (2011), Story, Story, die(2019), Coelacanth (2013), Psychopatriot (2016), SuperAmateur (2017), and Antigone (2025).
