Leiko is originally from Osaka, Japan, has earned her BFA from New York University and Master of Fine Arts from Yale university, and now resides in Oslo, Norway. She has designed Set and Costume for theater, dance, opera and other scenic events since 1996.
She enjoys working with Alan and their collaborations include; "Kodak" at Göteborgsoperan, "Som Lauvet i Vallombrosa" for Det Norske Teatret and "Jingle Horse" at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet. Other recent creations include; Tyra Tønnessen´s "Overføring" at Det Norske Teatret, Daniel Proietto's "Blanc" for Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna and "Woman" at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, "Carmen" at Kilden Performing Arts Center, "Madama Butterfly" and "Aida" for OscarsborgOperaen. She has also worked at most of the theaters in Norway such as Nationaltheatret, Det Norske Teatret, Riksteatret, Oslo Nye Teater, Trøndelag Teater and Den Nationale Scene, collaborating with directors such as Bentein Baardson, Tyra Tønnessen and Yngve Sundvor.
In USA, she has designed, among others, Benjamin Britten’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" for Chicago Opera Theater with Andrei Serban and collaborated with Mark Lamos on Shakespeare´s "The taming of the Shrew" for Yale Repertory Theatre and "A midsummer night´s dream" at Washington Shakespeare Theatre.
