STORY, STORY, DIE.
With a cast of 7 extraordinary dancers – Story, story, die. looks at the interdependency between lies and love: The things we do to be liked. It explores how we constantly re-arrange everyday life in an attempt to craft a desirable narrative – how we "lie" about ourselves and stage reality for each other - as we meet in life or through social media. Relentlessly seeking approval – a fast and fading "conditional" love, dependent on success and happiness.
Using visceral choreography, intertwined with poignant text and Øyen's renowned cinematic staging – the audience is left breathless. Alan Lucien Øyen works in close collaborations with the performers – not only when developing the choreography, but also when developing topic and text. The personal stories of the artists involved dictate the ongoing discourse in the studio. The piece incorporates the individual narratives so the performance and the artist speak from a point of truth. The main objective of all of Alan Lucien Øyen and winter guests’ work is a sincere expression that speaks about the human condition.
After the world premier at Dansens Hus, Oslo May 2019 Story, story, die. has gained a lot of interest and 2021/2022 tours are currently being booked.
As the the culture of narcissism among the current “Me” generation grows stronger than ever - the happiness we aspire to is fleeting and drifting further and further away.
Story, story, die creates a relatable narrative to all, asking to….
