Daniel Proietto

Creative Associate / Performer

Daniel Proietto was born in Argentina and trained in classical ballet at the Teatro Colón School in Buenos Aires. At the age of sixteen he began his professional career, dancing with Ballet Santiago de Chile, Ballet del Teatro Argentino and the Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín. From 2003 to 2006 he was one of the leading dancers with Carte Blanche, the Norwegian national company of contemporary dance. In 2013 the Norwegian National Ballet created the position of Guest Artist especially for him, a rare distinction for a contemporary dancer within a ballet company.

Internationally, Proietto has performed on stages including New York City Center, BAM, the National Theatre of Chaillot, Bunkamura, London Coliseum and Sadler’s Wells. He is closely associated with Russell Maliphant’s AfterLight (2009), a role that brought him international acclaim, an Olivier Award nomination, the UK Critics’ Circle National Dance Award, and recognition from Dance Europe as “Best Dancer of the Year.” He won first prize at the 21st International Choreographers’ Competition in Hannover for his choreographic debut in 2007, and has since created works for the Norwegian National Ballet, Vienna State Ballet and Cuban National Ballet, among others. His solo Cygne and his performance in Øyen’s Petrushka were both captured in Wim Wenders’ Cathedrals of Culture.

Since 2011 Proietto has studied Nihon Buyō and Kabuki with the prestigious Soke Fujima-ryū under Kanjuro Fujima VIII in Japan, a practice that led directly to his role in Simulacrum. Beyond the stage, he founded KNOW NATION, a platform combining film, movement and creative insight through artistic series and educational projects.

Proietto has been a creative collaborator with Alan Lucien Øyen and winter guests since the very beginning of the company, performing, co-creating and co-choreographing across numerous works, including commissions for the Paris Opera Ballet, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and most recently Antigone (2025).

Daniel Proietto has worked on the following winter guests productions: Antigone (2025, creative collaborator), Still Life(2024), America Ep. 3: SuperAmateur (2017), Simulacrum (2016), Jingle Horse! (2015), Coelacanth (2013), Avenida Corrientes (2010), What’s Not to Love? (2007), and Screened Out (2005)
