Dramaturg, Performer
Tom Remlov is a Norwegian actor, dramaturg, theatre director, film producer, and opera manager. Trained in Norway and the UK, he worked as a writer, actor and lecturer in London in the 1970s before rising to leadership roles in Norwegian cultural life.
From 1986 to 1995, Remlov served as Artistic Director of Den Nationale Scene in Bergen, where he introduced and promoted emerging Norwegian dramatists, (among them the 2024 Nobel Laureate Jon Fosse), and developed project-based models for institutional theaters. Subsequently, he assumed the roles of Producer and CEO of Norsk Film AS (1996–2001) and from 2008 to 2014, he served as CEO of Den Norske Opera & Ballett, guiding the company to its new home at the Oslo Opera House. From 2015 to 2020, he held the position of Artistic Director of Riksteatret, Norway’s national touring theater.
Alongside his institutional leadership, Remlov has produced or co-produced over twenty feature films, including Insomnia(1997), Aberdeen (2000), Cool & Crazy (2001), and Music for wedding and funerals (2002). He was decorated Knight, First Class of the Order of St. Olav in 2015 for his contributions to Norwegian culture and the arts.
Remlov has also worked with Alan Lucien Øyen and winter guests for many years in both official and unofficial capacities, serving as dramaturg on among others Avenida Corrientes (2010) and SuperAmateur (2017), and appearing as a performer in The American Moth (2021).
